Rules
Before you start playing live roulette games, you’d better familiarize yourself with the rules. Each table has a roulette wheel with the numbers 1 to 36 coloured red and black spaces, as well as a single green 0 and possibly a second green 00 (if it is an American roulette table).
The roulette wheel sits on a table next to a slightly complex looking betting area, which is where the chips are placed. The betting area allows you to bet on individual numbers and various different groups of numbers. Before the ball is spun in the roulette wheel, the dealer gives everyone at the table a chance to place their bets. When finished, the dealer will release the ball in the wheel.
Once the ball lands on a number, the winners will be determined based on their bets. When playing live roulette, you will instantly know if you have won. If you have, your screen will tell you so and your winnings will be added to your bankroll.
Walkthrough
To clear things up a little, here’s a walkthrough for a single round of live roulette.
- Dealer invites players to wager.
- Dealer stops wagers by closing the betting timeframe.
- Ball is spun within the wheel and lands on a number.
- Players are paid automatically for wins and do not receive anything for losses.
- Round is over once players are paid and table is clean, ready for a new round.
Why Choose Live Roulette?
One of the most popular forms of playing roulette is with a live dealer. Live roulette gives the player a genuine casino-like experience from the comfort of their living room. The games are streamed through high resolution video complete with live audio.
Live roulette is presented by a professional croupier who talks to the camera while the action is streamed to your phone or desktop. You can watch and hear as the dealer announced when it is time to wager and when all bets are closed. In many versions, the camera then switches to a close up view of the roulette wheel spinning with the ball inside it.
Placing a Roulette Bet
There are many different bets you can place on a roulette table. The odds of the bet are determined by the chance of that wager winning. For instance, you can place a bet on a single number or on a group of numbers. When playing for a single number, the chance of winning is far lower, thus the pay-out will be a lot larger than when betting on a group of numbers.
Roulette bets are split into two groups, inside bets and outside bets. These terms relate to where the chips are placed on the betting area.
Roulette Inside Bets
Inside bets are essentially wagers on the numbers themselves. On a roulette wheel, there are either 37 or 38 numbers, depending on whether you are at a European or American roulette table. The numbers range from 0-36 with the additional 00 on American roulette tables. The payouts are as follows:
- Placing a bet on a single number pays out 35:1.
- Placing a bet on two adjoining numbers, vertically or horizontally, pays out 17:1.
- Placing a bet on a street includes three adjacent numbers, such as 1, 2, 3 or 17, 18, 19. This pays out 11:1
- Placing a bet on a six-line includes any six numbers on adjacent rows. For instance, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27
- Placing a bet on a three number combination including either the 0 or 00. For instance, 0, 2 and 4
Roulette Outside Bets
In addition to placing inside bets, live roulette also offers the chance to place outside bets. This is a popular fashion of wager as it includes less risky bets that have a higher chance of winning (typically almost 50/50). Outside bets include the following:
- Placing a bet on Red or Black. This covers 18 numbers on both sides and pays out 1:1
- Placing a bet on Odd or Even. This covers 18 numbers on each side and pays 1:1
- Placing a bet on 1 to 18 or 19 to 36. This bet covers 18 numbers each and pays 1:1
- Placing a bet on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dozen (group of 12 numbers) to claim a 2:1 payout if successful
- Placing a bet on columns of 12 numbers that pays 2:1
Live Roulette Variants
One of the most appealing things about live roulette is the different variations on the game and we have picked three of them that we think are particularly noteworthy.
Lightning Roulette by Evolution Gaming
If you want to take your live roulette play to the next level then look no further than Lightning Roulette from Evolution Gaming. The live roulette game features a charismatic presenter standing above a roulette wheel with a mic in hand. The presentation of the game looks rather dark but is lit up with lightning animations and a special treat as well.
Lightning Roulette is played on a European roulette wheel. The specialty in Lightning Roulette is the lightning number. On each round, between 1 and 5 random numbers are chosen by an RNG (random number generator). The chosen lightning numbers are then assigned payout multipliers of between 50x and 500x. Thus, if you’ve placed a straight up bet on one of the lightning numbers, you could claim a massive payout if the ball then lands on it.
Immersive Roulette by Evolution Gaming
The most popular and aesthetically pleasing way of playing live roulette is sitting at an Immersive Roulette table. Having launched in 2013, Immersive Roulette is a fair reflection of how playing online live roulette can be even more enjoyable than going to your local casino. The game uses the most experienced dealers in the business to spin the wheels and take control of the gameplay. The dealers are the best of the best and take the time to read almost every comment made in the live chat. They do a great job in entertaining players with light conversation and charismatic skills.
Immersive Roulette is almost like a VIP form of playing. The amount of attention to detail that providers such as Evolution Gaming put into the title is second to none. The live dealer game is played with the same standard rules that any European roulette table has. The difference here is how the visuals are presented.
Whilst playing Immersive Roulette, you will be able to enjoy high quality graphics, using lots of different camera angles and close ups. When the wheel starts turning and the ball is spun, you take on a birds-eye view of the roulette wheel.
After the ball lands and the round is over, you also get to watch it back in slow-motion. Just imagine how thrilling it must be to watch your winning bet played over and over again in slow-mo.
Slingshot Auto Roulette by Evolution Gaming
Last but not least on our list, Slingshot Auto Roulette is another must try live roulette game. The main attraction for Slingshot Auto Roulette is that there is no dealer or human interaction. The gameplay is carried out by 2 sets of air pressure machines. One to spin the wheel, the other to spin the ball. It is all very systematic.
If you enjoy playing roulette but do not want to play with a random number generator, there’s no better place to be than live Slingshot Auto Roulette. The benefit here is that a real wheel is used, and a life-like mechanic is installed for getting the spins underway.
